FFXIV Gil is the primary currency used to purchase items within the game and can be obtained by looting treasure chests, defeating enemies or selling equipment and Materia.

Purchase of Gil on sale is an efficient and risk-free method to gain the currency that will allow you to advance quickly in game. At the start of a new patch however, prices may quickly escalate which makes this strategy riskier than others.

Crafting

FFXIV combat is generally the best way to make Gil, so if you are regularly running dungeons or FATEs then gil should flow from combat players who require gear, food, potions and potions for FATEs/dungeons/raids through gatherers to crafters who use the material into better gear.
